Hard-working performance gains the points for Marlow

Against a newly-promoted side Marlow took the lead, increased it, were reduced to 10 men but fought hard despite conceding for the first time this season and were rewarded with an away victory and 3 points on a hot afternoon in Woking.
Manager Mark Bartley was unsure about the fitness of skipper Chris Ovenden and Charlie Samuel and whereas Overs was introduced just past the hour when his undoubted talents were needs Samuel was able to be rested with aview to being available for this weekend's outing in the FA Emirates cup.
It was the visitors who had the first chance of the game and this arrived in the 20th minute with Chid Onokwai turning on the edge of the area but shooting straight into the hands of the home keeper. However, it was not long after that the ball was in the Westfield net following Devontae Romeo's ball into the feet of Jordan Brown whose turn and shot gave the lead to he delighted Blues.
Four minutes later the lead was doubled as this time a chip into the home 6 yard box was met by the diving Kamaron English and his header gave the home keeper no chance whatsoever.
Another 5 minutes on the lead was almost 3 but a free kick from Junaid Bell rebounded back from the frame of the goal with the keeper unable to get anywhere near.
So far so good but 3 minutes later came a setback that caused problems for the Blues as they were reduced in numbers when Chid Onakwai chased a ball through the middle and following a clash with the home keeper he received a red card for retaliating to an elbow into him.
To be fair the lads coped well with the loss up to the interval and almost added a third with English forcing a full-length save 5 minutes before half-time but the worse that could have happened did so as the home side pulled a goal back very soon after the restart when a cross from the left was volleyed between Simon Grant and his near post by Tinashe Nkoma.
Application and effort were now the requirements and thankfully these were seen thereafter and so much so that it was only in the 89th minute that the home side had a clear chance to grab an equaliser but following a cross from the right Karle Carter-Andrews smashed the ball high and wide.
One more possibility fell to Westfield but a double-clearance off the Marlow line was soon followed by the final whistle and Marlow had gained a second away victory within 8 days.
