Hayes & Yeading Utd 2 Westfield 0

Match report courtesy of Kevin Watts at HYUFC

Hayes & Yeading ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in our latest pre-season friendly against Westfield on a sticky Tuesday evening on the United 3G training pitch with goals from Moses Emmanuel and a trialist.

The gaffer tried out another starting formation for this one as preparations continue towards the new campaign with the game seeing the return of two additional players from last seasons’ squad in the shape of Cole Brown and Josh Payne.

An early chance for United on 5 minutes saw Sanmi Odelusi spray the ball perfectly out to trialist H on the left, his well struck cross being sliced just over his own crossbar by a Westfield defender.

With just over 20 minutes played another United opening saw trialists Q and N combine with the latter firing the ball across the face of goal to Moses Emmanuel but from an acute angle he could only find the side netting.

United continued to dominate the ball and chances continued to come and go for the home side. A cross from the left from trialist K picked out right-back trialist G but he sliced his shot wide from 15 yards out and soon after another cross from the left, this time from trialist C found Emmanuel but his first time volley could only find the midriff of the visitors ‘keeper.

A quick breakaway by the visitors on the half hour mark saw the ball played left but the Westfield striker fired wide of Ravan Constable’s goal and into the side netting.

United’s trialists were seeing a lot of the ball as the half drew towards its conclusion, trialist H crossed again from the left but his counterpart N placed his header just the wrong side of the upright and a minute later a driving run into the box and shot by trialist K drew a fine save from the Westfield stopper who pushed the effort away to safety.

The visiting stopper was again to play spoiler a minute later as Emmanuel got his head to a corner only to be denied as the ‘keeper pushed his effort away and we closed the half without a goal at 0-0.

It took United less than two minutes to break the visitors resistance after the break, trialist Q had his initial shot charged down with Emmanuel collecting the loose ball to fire home the opener for the home side.

Just past the hour mark Constable, who had been a virtual onlooker thus far, was forced to dive quickly to his left to push a low drive around the post.

With the frequency of changes on the pitch increasing, the tempo of the game decreased somewhat, the next opening for United saw trialist R check in from the right but his low shot was inches wide of the target and a couple of minutes later trialist N collected the ball beyond the far post, controlled it well and fired home for his second goal of pre-season and the game closed out with United winning 2-0 in what was a hard but worthwhile workout for both teams.

We thank Westfield for coming to visit us for this game and wish them all the best for the coming season.
