End of Season round-up 2020-21

As we prepare to hand our pitch back to Woking Borough Council, here's a brief round-up of our short season
With the 2020-21 league season starting in mid-September, there was a hint of optimism at Woking Park that we could start afresh from the disappointment of the previously-curtailed year.
Despite a completely re-built first team and new coaching staff, first team manager Simon Lane was determined to take the Club forward. After a shaky start in the FA Cup Preliminary round, going out on penalties to lower-level Frimley Green, some early league wins and plenty of goals looked promising, and gave us the confidence to believe we could at least hold our own at this level.
October brought mixed results, but we could all see the inevitable coming; another lockdown would curtail the season again, our last competitive game being a healthy 5-1 Surrey Senior Cup win over Cobham. A few friendlies were arranged in December, but the chance of completing even half a season's games looked lost.
Our reserve team were delighted to welcome former first team manager John Comer back to the Club after 12 years; 3 victories from 4 games played left the team in 5th place in the Hellenic League Division 2, with some promising new players and something to build on for 2021-22.
The U18s side struggled in their league games, having previously had a couple of great games in the FA Youth Cup. There will be some changes around their set-up next season, as the Club attempts to become more connected and provide a more definite progression for both reserves and U18s toward the first team.
Full statistics for the first team are now on our Results Archive page, just click the link to the relevant season, and further information and updates for the reserves and U18s can be found in their own sections on this website.
The 2021-22 league season will begin on Saturday 14 August, followed immediately by a Preliminary round game in the 2021-22 FA Cup on Saturday 21st. Before that, all our teams will be back in training from mid-July, with the main Woking Park pitch being available again from Saturday 24 July. Keep an eye out for some interesting pre-season games, which will be announced as soon as confirmed.
The Club would like to say a special thank-you to all those, named and un-named, who have continued to work for and on behalf of Westfield Football Club in many different roles, with most giving up their own personal time and talents to help us maintain our non-league status and traditions. We wish you all a very pleasant summer break, and hope that you will join us again very soon.
