Harry Powell Report

The Field holds the Champions-elect Chertsey Town to a draw at Alwyns Lane, and possibly should’ve ended their unbeaten run.

Despite some punters thinking that this game would be a whitewash, it was the Field who had the best chances of the game at the start, with a lively Brissett making his mark on the game with only 10 minutes gone, as his head met the ball from Taylor’s cross at the back post, which flew over the Chertsey ‘keeper Nicholas Jupp and into the bottom corner to give the Field the lead.

The Field then found themselves under the cosh, as Chertsey piled on the pressure, in search of an equaliser. Whilst this pressure was dealt with relatively well by the resolute Field defence, a corner on 22 minutes saw a ball fired onto the head of Oliver McCoy, who’s bullet header found the top corner, levelling the scoring.

It was an end-to-end game for the rest of the first half, with Gogonas having a brilliant effort denied by the head of Jupp, with Wheeler also having to make some excellent saves to ensure the Field did not go behind.

The second half saw the Field at their best, as they continued to move the ball well, especially through the right-hand channel, where Archy Taylor continued to have a fine game. Many fantastic opportunities found the Field down the far end of Alwyns Lane, but unfortunately, a blinder of a performance by Jupp kept Chertsey in the game, as he pulled off some remarkable saves.

At the end, it is a valuable point going into the play-offs and a truly spirited performance against a great side who, no doubt, will be champions soon.
